Performance, Research and Transatlantic Exchange

Recognized for a practice that brings together classical performance, academic research and cultural transmission, Ana Gabriela Fernández has built an international trajectory across Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Canada and Europe. Her work explores the dialogue between Latin American and European musical traditions, with a particular focus on the legacy of Cuban composer Julián Orbón, transatlantic cultural exchange and the visibility of women composers.

A Doctor of Musical Arts from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Fernández has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, OFUNAM, the Guadalajara Philharmonic and the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, she gave the Mexican premiere of Fractalis for piano and orchestra by Gabriela Ortiz with OFUNAM, conducted by Ronald Zollman.

Her artistic development has been shaped by masterclasses and mentorship from internationally renowned pianists including Maria João Pires, Gabriela Montero, Lilya Zilberstein, Sara Davis Buechner, Evelyne Brancart and André Watts. Her discographic work has received recognition at the Cubadisco Awards, including recordings released by Colibrí, the label of the Cuban Institute of Music.

Beyond the concert stage, Fernández’s practice is deeply connected to research, cultural dialogue and audience development. Through recitals, lecture-concerts and institutional collaborations, she creates bridges between music, heritage, contemporary culture and new audiences. Her previous collaborations have included cultural initiatives, private-sector partnerships and projects connected to luxury, philanthropy and the arts.
